Title: The Bad Place '99 Map Author : CHiNX Email : chinx@clara.co.uk Webpage: www.clanbase.com (for all your halflife clan needs) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Description: The bad place '99 is a remake of the old classic DM4 (the bad place) map from the original quake. As some will know, this was considered by most to be the best map around for 1v1 in the quake scene, so i decided to update it up for 1999, and more importantly, Half-Life). The map is for 1v1 only, and was designed (weapon placement, amour etc) with that in mind. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Map info: Game: Halflife Level name : the_badplace.bsp Singleplayer: No Deatmatch: Yes Number of players: 1v1 only Best settings for gameplay: sv_maxspeed 320 mp_weaponstay 1 Bugs: Only one i know of is when you teleport on top of someone u both get stuck until one of u kills each other. But sometimes that can be good for a laugh :) New textures/sounds: No Built with: Worldcraft 2.1 and quark Compiled by: Simple halflife complie tool Time to build: 1-2 weeks Complie time: 1 minute Machine used: Celeron 466, 192mb ram, tnt ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Notes As this is my first map (well first ive managed to complete ;)) i decided to do a remake of an old level so i would have a base to work from while i got used to all the features of wc and quark. And there could be only 1 map that i would remake, DM4 from quake, the ultimate 1v1 map. During the building of it i released i would run into a few problems with weapons, due to them being totally different to quakes, and as anyone whos played the map in quake knows, rocket jumping is a vital part of the gameplay. So i included the gauss, but the problem is, among the cream of the crop of hl players, the gauss is too powerfull of a weapon and can totally dominate a map without them even having to aim at their opponents thro gauss nukes. This meant i had to reduce the gauss ammo (best played with weaponstay 1 to help this), but there was still too many nukes, so i went round the map, found them all (well virtually all of em) and did my best to remove em. Theres still a few in there, if ya can find em, but the main ones are removed to balance gameplay. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Additional notes I have playtested this quite alot, and the balance is almost perfect for experianced players, tho not too sure how good it will be for new/ average players, hopefully just as good :) Anyway i have recorded a demo of a quick match between me and a friend, just to show you some of the map tricks which make the gameplay flow alot better. I advise everyone to watch it if they want to get the best out of this map. (it even includes how to get out of the lava if you fall in :)) You can find it here: http://www.chinx.clara.co.uk/Thebadplacedemo.zip (1.2meg) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Credits Valve: makers of the great game and worldcraft Id: creators of the original DM4 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Greetz Tex Zentek Inq [1byte]=Loc=[Noops][gimp] Virg Rest of KR (good luck in the future lads) Erazor (watch out for nuke when going for longjump ;)) All of XKI, Pacs, KMA Stonemason And anyone else i forgot :) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Future projects Next i might do a remake of bootcamp, raising the roof on it so people can walk on top of the buildings (been requested by alot of top players) and after that will either remake another old quake map, or start one from fresh (bootcamp2 anyone? ). Failing them, i may just come back to playing halflife to reclaim my number 1 status ;)
